Says Becca: “Nail art on Pinterest seems so simple, so brilliant. My sister saw this tutorial and got so excited, she decided to try it right away. We had all the confidence that it would work without a hitch.

“My first clue should have been when my sister INSISTED I try it first. My second clue should have been when she suggested that we try the craft out with the nail polishes that weren’t too dear, which led to the lovely combination of purple and orange in the picture. My third clue should have been when my sister told me that we only needed to look at the pictures of the tutorial, no need to read any lengthy descriptions.

“After this lovely result, we decided to actually follow the instructions. It turns out there were a few steps we skipped, like using tape around the nail and pulling the nail up through the water instead of dipping it. Oh well. Nailed it!”

Yes, a key ingredient of failure is lack of preparation! We’re just glad you have a since of humor about it. It’s always good to be able to just laugh it off:

  1. Next time, put tape around your nails! It worked for me! Also, use colors that go together well! Sayanythingbrooke has an amazing tutorial about this on Youtube.

I’ve done this at least 40 times and my nails have never come out as a fail. That one was clearly a user error.

To add to the other suggestions, cheap polish or polish with shimmer sometimes will not marble well.

I also failed the first few times but was determined to get it:

-room temperature is CRUCIAL (slightly warmer or slightly cooler could be major problem)
-some cheapish nail polishes will work, the important part is if it’s a good one it well spread out across the water from the middle toward the edges
-if you paint/brush Elmers glue all around the edge of your nails down to your knuckles and let dry before dipping into polish, clean-up is EASY…and who didn’t peel dry glue off your hands as a kid… It’s fun too. My first try at this I was an absolute mess of nail polish it took forever to fix!

Try again! I’ve not mastered it, but I’ve come out with some cool designs and none have been alike. It’s been fun seeing what comes out of the water from the colors I’ve chosen.

    Good luck!

I own 2 bottles of nail polish, (one clear for nail strength, and black for halloween) my friend and I did it first try today and looks great! So happy, wasn’t even too hard. if having difficulty, try with a friend. Old or cheap nailpolish wont spread out very well btw 😉
